About CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of around 140 compounds known as cannabinoids found in the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). It is the main active ingredient in CBD oils, capsules, balms, snacks and vape juice. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the controlled cannabinoid), CBD is non-intoxicating, which means that it will not make you ‘high’ or cause addiction.

While research into CBD’s therapeutic potential is still limited, early studies indicate that it may be able to support people with a range of health conditions, including inflammation, pain, anxiety, depression, skin conditions and sleep issues.

CBD is a natural compound that affects everyone differently. If you’ve been taking CBD for a while and haven’t noticed any effects yet, this could be down to a number of factors, including your product choice and dosage. Here are three things you can do to increase your chances of benefiting from CBD:

1. Firstly, choose the right type of product for your needs. For example, if you’re looking for something to soothe aching muscles or irritated skin, explore our topical CBD range and try the product that’s most suited for your condition. If you’re looking for more general effects upon the body, you may find ingestible products like CBD oils, capsules or snacks more effective.

2. Secondly, find the right dosage for your needs. If you’ve been using CBD for several weeks and haven’t felt any positive effects, it’s possible that your dosage is too low. Try increasing your daily dose gradually over time until you begin to notice the desired effects and find your sweet spot. Just make sure you do not take more than a total of 70mg CBD per day. For help in finding your optimal starting dosage, try out our CBD Oil Dosage Calculator.

3. Thirdly, take CBD consistently over a long period of time. CBD builds up in your system when taken regularly, so the longer you take it for, the more likely you are to feel the effects. In a survey we conducted in 2021, our results showed that customers who had been using CBD for 4 months or longer reported the most health benefits. To explore the findings of our survey in more detail, check out our blog article: CBD oil experiences: What our customers say about CBD

Yes, CBD is legal in the UK, EU, USA and many other countries around the world. In the UK, consumer CBD is legal provided that it is sourced from the stems, stalks and leaves of approved industrial hemp plants containing less than 0.2% THC.

No, CBD does not make you high. Unlike THC, CBD is a non-intoxicating compound, so it has no potential to cause intoxication. All Naturecan products contain non-detectable THC levels (0.01%) to guarantee their safety.

No, CBD is not addictive. THC is the intoxicating and addictive component of cannabis, but this is removed from Naturecan CBD products to ensure they are completely safe for consumption.

CBD is safe and generally well-tolerated, and there are no reports of serious side effects. However, in rare cases people may experience mild side effects, including a dry mouth, light-headedness and reduced blood pressure. These side effects are usually the result of using low quality products or exceeding the recommended daily dose.

There are two main ways to take CBD: orally and topically. Oral CBD products, such as oils, capsules and snacks, are absorbed into the bloodstream to deliver a systemic effect on the whole body. Topical CBD products, such as muscle balms, massage oils and moisturisers, are applied directly to the skin and keep the effects of CBD localised to problem areas.

To take CBD oil, place the required number of drops under the tongue and wait one to two minutes before swallowing. This allows the CBD to pass directly into the bloodstream via the capillaries under the tongue.

Learn more about the various ways of taking CBD in our blog article: How to take CBD.

The answer to this question depends on various factors, including the physiology of the user and the product being used. CBD vape juice is the fastest way to absorb CBD into the body: when inhaled, it enters directly into the bloodstream via the lungs and can start working within minutes. CBD oils are also fast-acting, as the CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream via the blood vessels under the tongue, taking effect within 15-30 minutes.

By contrast, CBD capsules and snacks have to be digested before entering the bloodstream, so they can take up to one or two hours to start working. Topical CBD products, on the other hand, do not enter the bloodstream at all – they are absorbed directly into the skin and tend to start working within 30 minutes.

Like all food supplements, CBD does eventually expire and the expiry date is stated on the product label. While it’s difficult to give a precise shelf-life for CBD products, they are usually at their best for one to two years, after which point they will begin to lose potency. Excess light, oxygen, heat and moisture can accelerate the degradation of natural active ingredients, so CBD should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place, sealed in its original packaging.

The CBD industry is still in its infancy, and as a result it remains vastly under-regulated. This has allowed a large number of poor quality products to enter the market, many of which have misleading label claims and no proof of independent testing. If you’re looking to buy CBD oil and other CBD products, here are some key things to look out for:

  • A trusted, reputable seller
  • Proof of independent testing (e.g. certificates of analysis)
  • Plant-based CBD (no added synthetic material)
  • Non-detectable THC content
  • CBD sourced from legal, organic hemp (containing <0.2% THC)
  • First stage approval for the Novel Foods Licence application

Naturecan meets all of the above requirements. Our CBD is a plant-based broad-spectrum distillate with non-detectable THC (0.01%) sourced from certified organic hemp plants in Oregon, USA. All our products are made using industry-leading technology and independently tested to guarantee their quality and safety. We also provide certificates of analysis on all CBD product pages as proof of our rigorous testing protocols.

In March 2022, we were rated the number one CBD brand in the UK, EU and Australia by Leafreport. We were also one of just 78 UK brands, out of over 800, to progress through to the second stage of the Novel Foods Licence application – offering further proof of our commitment to quality, safety and transparency.

No, hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same. While both are derived from the hemp plant, they have very different properties and uses. Hemp oil (also called hemp seed oil) is extracted from hemp seeds, which contain little to no CBD or other cannabinoids, whereas CBD oil is extracted from the stalks and leaves of the hemp plant, which are rich in CBD and contain low levels of minor cannabinoids. Hemp oil is high in fatty acids, vitamins and other nutrients, and a common ingredient in nutritional, cosmetic and industrial products. By contrast, CBD oil is a food supplement with a wide range of potential health benefits.

CBD oil has a mild, earthy taste due to the various natural compounds present in the extract. Naturecan’s CBD is combined with an MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) carrier oil derived from coconut to add to its mild taste and improve its bioavailability. As you might expect, high strength CBD oils have a stronger flavour than low strength oils, as they contain higher concentrations of CBD and minor cannabinoids. CBD capsules are the only ingestible CBD product with no taste at all.

The best time to take CBD can depend on your individual needs and the effects you're seeking. Some people prefer taking it in the morning for a calming start to the day, while others find it more beneficial in the evening to aid with relaxation and sleep. It may be helpful to start with a low strength CBD and adjust based on your experiences.

CBD is not psychoactive like THC and should not impair your ability to drive. However, individual reactions can vary, and it's important to understand how CBD affects you personally before driving or operating heavy machinery.

CBD may interact with certain medications, so it's important to consult with a healthcare provider before combining CBD with other medications. This ensures safety and avoids any potential adverse interactions.

While CBD is believed to have potential pain-relieving properties, combining it with pain medication should be done under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure safety and efficacy.

Here at Naturecan, we believe CBD should not be used by children. However, in certain cases, doctors may prescribe CBD for children. Hence, the use of CBD in children should be approached with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

For any specific concerns or detailed information about Naturecan products and their use, consulting directly with Naturecan’s customer service or a healthcare provider is recommended.
